Gary Boyce (1963) sang as a chorister in his birthplace London, England. At the age of 8 he debuted with a performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors. In 1982 he debuted in Handel’s Messiah with Tafelmuzik in Toronto, Canada. Performances with Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Conducted by Christopher Hogwood followed.
He began his opera carrier in 1986 in Montreal, Canada in the role of Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Nights Dream in the meantime his opera repertoire broadened to include Modern and Baroque roles. In 1994 he performed the role of Spirit in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas with Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (Jan Willem de Vriend). In the season 1998 -1999 he debuted the role of Natasha in Peter Eötvös' new opera Les Trois Soeurs at L’ opera de Lyon conducted by Kent Nagano & Peter Eötvös.
In 1989 Boyce made his place of residence the Netherlands. Where he has performed with various ensembles including the Netherlands Bach Ensemble. He has worked on many television-, film-, radio and CD recordings, including Flamma, Flamma (The Fire Requiem) by Nicholas Lens with the BRTN Orchestra, Le Mystčre des Voix Bulgares, and various other soloists. And Aap Verslaat de Knekelgeest (Monkey Subdues the White-Bone Demon) in the role of Monk (Hsuan-Tsang) composed by Peter Schat.
He performed many recitals and modern lied cycles. In 1998 he debuted in L’ opera de Lyon with a recital ranging from Purcell to spirituals. His carrier has brought him to many European countries, U.S.A, Canada, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
As a singing actor or an acting singer he has performed in productions of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" at The Nederlands Toneel Gent, Belgium directed by Niek Kortekaas, and the "Man in the Boat" a Theatrical Manifestation for the Summer from Antwerp Festival in 1999, and "Nijinsky, A Painting" in 2005, to name but a few. In the summer of 2000 he was Orfeo in Orfeo Aqua(Gluck) a main event of Simmer 2000, Frysk Festival, in Friesland, the Netherlands.
Boyce has made performances of Peter Eötvös Tri Sestri, at Le Chatelet in Paris, Edinburgh Festival with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, La Monnaie (de Munt) in Brussels, L’ opera de Lyon, the Hamburg Staatsoper and the Vienna Festival. In 2001 a La Scala performance of the Carmina Burana met with great success.
In the 2004 season he embarked on a new adventure performing with horses (Frisian) in various shows, combining his singing with dressage riding skill. He has performed at Chateau de Versailles, with Bartabas, as Chevalier de Saint George. The famous black court composer of King Louis the 16th & Marie Antoinette. His equestrian skill have taken him to Denmark and Belgium, and of course The Netherlands, where has has performed for Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands.
The 2006 season included Michael Levinas Les Negres in the role of Diouf in Freiburg, another performance of The Threes Sisters at The Hamburg State Opera as Nathasha, and a production of Angels In America composed by the conductor Peter Eötvös, in the role of Belize.
